The NEW iPads

Apple have just launched two new ipads (iPad and iPad Pro) which are amazing for everyone, but specifically for students who can keep them as their personal computers from school through to university and beyond. The amount of power and capability included is amazing, but with a few new tweaks, they’re even more handy. The front-facing camera has been repositioned for landscape use, better suiting facetime, Zoom and Skype calls, and picture-in-picture collab sessions.

The new iPad with an all-screen design featuring a large 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display. The new iPad is powered by the A14 Bionic chip, which delivers even faster performance with incredible power efficiency for demanding tasks while still providing all-day battery life. Updated cameras include an Ultra Wide 12MP front camera located along the landscape edge of the iPad for an even better video calling experience, and an updated 12MP back camera to capture sharp, vivid photos and 4K video. A USB-C port supports a wide range of accessories, Wi-Fi 6 brings even faster connections, and cellular models feature superfast 5G so users can stay connected on the go.
Designed specifically for the new iPad, the all-new Magic Keyboard Folio features an incredible typing experience, a click-anywhere trackpad, and a versatile two-piece design. With iPadOS 16 and support for Apple Pencil (1st generation),2 iPad offers users more ways to be creative and productive.
Apple Watch
I’ve tried a lot of smartwatches. Some great, some incredibly bad (pro-tip, not all Instagram ads are legit!) – but none have been as useful, as easy to use, and as intuitive as my Apple Watch. I have the Series 7 but that Ultra series is very cool. They all encourage a healthy lifestyle with apps to help me relax, keep a sleep schedule, count steps, and track workouts.
Setting Up Your Family with Apple Watch
I keep an Apple Tag on my daughter – either in her school bag or on her wrist if she’s going on a field trip or on an outing like Trick or Treating at Halloween. With the Apple Watch, you can connect to loved ones and give them a direct line to you, even without giving them a phone.

Family Setup lets you pair watches for your children and older family members to your iPhone. Everyone gets their own phone number, and you can manage each watch using the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
With Family Setup, kids get to experience many of the capabilities of Apple Watch. They can stay in touch with the people you approve, by calling and texting. And have fun streaming music, downloading apps and paying for stuff with Apple Cash Family. You can also schedule Schooltime to limit Apple Watch features when they need to focus. Even the Activity rings have been rethought to better reflect how they exercise — tracking Move minutes instead of active calories. And with location sharing, you’ll get alerts when kids get home or aren’t where they’re expected to be.
A smart call for older adults.
Apple Watch can open up a whole new world for older family members. They get the same connectivity benefits of Apple Watch, like calling, texting and location sharing to stay close to the family. And if they need it, they can make the text larger or bolded.
Safety features on the Apple Watch
Apple Watch comes with important safety features like fall detection which can detect if your loved ones have taken a hard fall. If it senses they’re immobile, Emergency SOS will connect them with emergency services — even if they haven’t signed up for a cellular plan. They can also get help in an emergency — all over the world by simply pressing and holding the side button.
Health features on the Apple Watch
As well as tracking steps, sleep, time standing vs sitting, calories burned, and time spent exercising, the Apple Watch now has more features that can help monitor some very useful health stats.
Apple Watch can alert family members if it detects unusually high or low heart rates, as well as measure their current heart rate. And all the Activity goals, including Stand hours and Exercise minutes, can be customized to a level that works for older family members.
The newest versions (more info here) have new features like fall detection, and in-depth health monitoring, and are waterproof.
There’s an Apple Watch for everyone. From the SE which has all the fitness tracking, communication features, and health data you need on a daily-use watch, to the Apple Watch Ultra – for those who like to go further and push themselves and their gear to their limits. I like to hike in the rainy/snowy North Vancouver mountains, so having the larger display that works in the rain, the emergency siren, and the ability to work down to -20.c is a valuable tool to have on my wrist.

More often than not, the photos and videos I create are taken on my iPhone. It’s fast, easy to use, and does an incredible job every time.
