Our First Trip to Disneyland! – The Hotel (And why we didn’t stay at the park)

This is our first ever family trip to Disneyland. In fact, we haven’t really been anywhere for a few years so we wanted to make this vacation a magical one.

Our daughter is 6, an age perfect to first experience all the sparkly wonder of Disney, princesses, and exciting rides.

We began our research with a look at the Disneyland (California) resort hotels but it looks like they’re either under partial construction, out of our price range, or just not special enough. Sure, it’s handy that they’re on-site, but that was kinda the main appeal. So we started to look just outside the gates and we found the Westin Anaheim very highly reviewed. Even people on Twitter were raving about how close it is (5-10 minute walk).

Our criteria for a hotel:

  • Pool
  • Nice rooms
  • Pool
  • Close to Disneyland
  • Room service
  • Pool
  • Good food
  • and a pool

For the week-long stay, we’re only going to the park on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday to avoid the weekend crowds and to give our feet a rest from the walk. Plus, this is my vacation too and I really, reeeeaaalllly need some time by the pool.

If you need me, I’ll be here.

Our room has a view of the park, which is really fun especially when they have the fireworks shows. So we can either have a room service dinner, relax after a long day, or pass out as soon as we kick off our shoes.

If, and it’s a big ‘if’ we have any energy left, we might pop up to the rooftop bar to watch the celebrations. It’s lovely and warm here in California, but the firepits take the chill out of the evening, which is really nice.

*Post-stay update* –

Wow! The hotel, room, staff, food, and the pool were all amazing. It was everything we needed and more. In fact, when we first pulled up to the hotel, we thought we’d been driven to the wrong one because it was so nice.

The pool was fantastic. Large, never busy, and plenty of sun loungers and fresh towels.

The food in the hotel and by the pool were all absolutely delicious and so fresh too.

In conclusion, I highly recommend the Westin Anaheim and can’t wait to go back!
