Her Health Matters – How Vancouver Supports Women’s Health

Her Health Matters – Support Local Businesses to Invest in Women’s Health.

In support of International Women’s Day and Women’s Health on March 8th, twelve health and wellness businesses across British Columbia are teaming up with BC Women’s Hospital to bring focus to the healthcare needs of women.

Women still face sharp disadvantages in many facets of life, including health outcomes. As a Dad to a kind, beautiful, cheeky and clever girl and a husband to an incredible woman, women’s health needs to be talked about and supported whenever possible.

Did you know that until the 1990’s, less than thirty years ago, women were not included in most healthcare and research studies?

Even though women are physiologically different many prescriptions drug therapies and treatment protocols still in use today have been disproportionally studied on men.

Each year, heart disease kills more women than men, yet only 1/3 of patients in heart disease research studies are women – even after it was discovered that conventional testing fails to diagnose heart disease in most women.

Women are more likely to report severe and long-lasting pain but are typically treated less aggressively than men.
