Exploring the North of the Fraser Ale Trail – Weekend Activities for the Whole Family

[In partnership with BC Ale Trail, Tourism New Westminster and Explore Burnaby]

What a weekend! So often as a family, we complain that we have no idea how to spend our free time. But this weekend blasted us out of our comfort zone and into a whirlwind of local, super-fun, and delicious things to do, all within a 30-minute drive.

Here are all the things we did, ate, and experienced. Ready? Let’s do this:

Brewery: Steamworks Brewing Co – Brewery and Taproom
Address: 3845 William Street, Burnaby
Info: Open 12pm – 12am. Craft beer is available, as well as food trucks out front regularly.
Fun and thriving local spot. Huge selection of beers, including non-alcoholic options. Plenty of tabletop games on-hand to keep the evening going.

Address: 3850 Lougheed Hwy, Burnaby
The menu is California-inspired with fresh, light and bright food that fills you. Designed for how people want to eat today — healthy-ish, flavour-driven food with some indulgent options. They encourage sharing.
We kicked off with Korean-style spare ribs (yum), then moved onto a pizza to share and a crispy chicken burger (warm-spicy, very good), and… HOLD. THE. PHONE – Tiramasu? Oh yes please.

An evening at The Amazing Brentwood (TAB)
Located in Burnaby’s Brentwood neighbourhood, it will feature world-class shops, restaurants, public plazas, entertainment, and 6,000+ new homes. Huge and lots to do. The food court is a foodie’s dream with everything from bubble waffles to kebabs, fresh sushi to curry.

This is a regular spot for my daughter and I as we battle it out on the Mario Kart game and try our luck at the claw machine to get a huge unicorn stuffy.

I had the chicken and waffles, which came out hot and fresh. Very tasty! The lemon ricotta pancakes were fantastic too, as was the coffee.

It’s so cool to be introduced to all of these local breweries. Each one has a completely different vibe and such a welcoming ambiance. I’m no expert on ales, lagers, and craft beer, but I always find something I like and the staff are always keen to help me out.
