DIY: Build a No-Tool Doll House

A few weeks ago, I made a tiny door and put it in the garden. My daughter thought it was for elves, so that’s what I let her believe.

Yesterday it disappeared! “Oh!” I said. “Perhaps the elves took it back. Maybe they’re building a house.”

They weren’t, but I was. While she was napping, I took a few pieces that I’d picked up from Home Depot and Michael’s and made a quick dolls/ elves house.

I used:

  • 1 wooden crate
  • 1 sample pot of pink paint
  • 1 sample pot of blue paint
  • 2 strips of 4 ft x 4 inches wood (only used one)
  • A paint brush
  • A tube of No More Nails

I placed the strip across the width of the crate to measure where to cut. I used a saw but they will cut this for you in the hardware store if you ask.

One strip of wood made enough for three sections, glued together with No More Nails and placed as a second floor for the dolls and elves house. Allow to dry thoroughly before painting.

I went for blue on the outside except for the back, which I used my daughter’s crayons to make it look like the house was built into a tree.

The inside is now a lovely shade of pink, and a painted a couple of carpets on the floors for decoration.

For the furniture, I went to Michael’s and picked up a baby crib, a mirror, a chest of drawers, and a table and chairs set. The rest will be a random assortment of toys that I’ll let my daughter put in.

Oh, I almost forgot, that original Elf door is now on the back, which is what she sees first when she discovers it.

Please note, my artistic skills need a lot of work, so feel free to take my idea and make it look good!

***Update: She loved it! ***
