Are you a Superhero Dad?

Teaser – there’s a big giveaway from my friends at Marks Canada if you keep reading!

As a Dad, I get to wear lots of different hats. Some actual hats, like a fireman helmet, a cowboy hat, and a kitty (not a hat but is insisted it goes on my head), and some figurative ones too, like both good cop and bad cop. I’m often “Doctor Daddy” when we’re playing with her checkup kit (please don’t ask me for actual medical advice), and sometimes a good old fashioned monster to chase and be chased around the garden.

I can’t fly, see through walls, or run super-fast. I can however be the one that she leans on when she’s sad, protect her from bees (or recently, guinea pigs) and cause her to wonder who would win in a fight, me or Superman. Haven’t we all thought that?

Father’s Day is all about recognising the effort it takes to be a Dad. We don’t usually get the praise that Mums do, and often, rightfully so. However, it takes dedication, patience, and a lot of love, even in the hardest of moments.

As my daughter is a little too young for portrait requests, I commissioned my nieces to draw their favourite uncle (sorry, Johnny 😉 ) as a superhero. They drew me with their favourite colours and both drew a big heart on my chest. I didn’t ask for that detail but I can’t help feel proud that it’s the impression they have of me.

In case you’re wondering, I’m not wearing lipstick in that drawing. At least I don’t think I am. I mean, there was one time, but it was raining and I needed to occupy my daughter for a few minutes.

The Contest

Between now and Sunday, June 17th, 2018, Mark’s is hosting a social media contest that encapsulates the way kids see their dads. Mark’s is calling on dads to ask their child(ren) to draw a picture of him, depicting him as a superhero, take a photo of the drawing and post it to social media, tagging @MarksCanada and using #SuperheroDad.

Mark’s will review the entries and select a group of winners who will be gifted a wide range of prizes, including a $500 Mark’s gift card, an in-store shopping experience at Mark’s with country star Brett Kissel, and two round-trip experiences for two to attend the CFL Grey Cup! (Go Lions!)

Also, if dad doesn’t have social media, mom can post in his place!

Good luck!

What a great post! Dads, like you mentioned, often times don’t get the recognition that they deserve for all that goes into being a good dad. My little one hasn’t grasped the concept of drawing/coloring yet (it’s all scribbles still) but when he does I’ll have to remember to have him draw his daddy as a superhero!
